Bangkok’s original business district: embassies and banks on the main road, quiet sois behind the towers.
Sathorn was Bangkok’s first modern business district, and it still carries the weight of it: head offices, embassies along South Sathorn and a bank on every corner. The surprise is what sits behind the main road. Step into Soi Suan Phlu or the lanes off Narathiwat and the traffic falls away to schools, cafés and low-rise homes that have been in the same families for decades. Almost all the land is built on, which is why good buildings hold their value: there is very little left to build.
