Buriram was a quiet provincial capital until sport put it on the map. Buriram United, the most successful club in Thai football, plays at the 32,600-seat Chang Arena, and the Chang International Circuit nearby has staged MotoGP’s Thailand Grand Prix in 2018–2019 and every year since 2022, with a contract to at least 2031. Beyond the town lie more than 60 Khmer sanctuaries, the finest being Phanom Rung on the rim of an extinct volcano. Daily life is easy: a regional hospital, a leading state school and a weekend walking street.
