Bangkok’s weekend hills beside Khao Yai National Park, and Korat, the big city at the gateway to Isan.
Nakhon Ratchasima, known to everyone as Korat, is Thailand’s second most populous province and the gateway to Isan. It holds two quite different places. Khao Yai, around Pak Chong, is where Bangkok families keep weekend homes: green hills on the edge of Thailand’s first national park, cooler than the capital, with vineyards, dairy farms, golf and pool villas along Thanarat Road. About 90 km further on, Korat city is a large, practical provincial capital with malls, universities and Thailand’s largest provincial hospital, where a family house costs far less than in Bangkok.
