Thailand’s oldest Buddhist city, with Mahidol’s Salaya campus and family estates 56 km from Bangkok.
Nakhon Pathom is where, by tradition, Buddhism first reached Thailand, and Phra Pathom Chedi still rises 120 metres over the old town. Most homes for sale, though, are in the east, in the districts that touch Bangkok. Salaya, in Phutthamonthon, holds Mahidol University’s main campus and the Phutthamonthon Buddhist park, and borders Bangkok’s Thawi Watthana. Sam Phran, on the Tha Chin River, has more than half the houses for sale. The city is 56 km from Bangkok, and the Red Line is due to reach Salaya in 2029.
