Thailand’s fishing capital at the mouth of the Tha Chin, with family estates along Rama 2 and Setthakit.
Samut Sakhon sits where the Tha Chin River meets the Gulf of Thailand, and its capital, Mahachai, is the centre of the country’s fishing industry, with one of Thailand’s largest seafood markets at Talad Talay Thai. Behind the port are more than 6,000 factories, most of them small, and many of the seafood workers come from Myanmar. Homes are mostly estate houses: along Rama 2, on Setthakit 1 Road, which runs 20 km from Om Noi to Mahachai, and off Phetkasem Road in Krathum Baen, next to Bangkok’s Nong Khaem and Bang Bon.
