Rice fields, limestone peaks and the waterbirds of Thale Noi, on the western shore of Songkhla Lake.
Phatthalung is the south’s rice country, an almost landlocked province between the Nakhon Si Thammarat range and the western shore of Songkhla Lake. Its symbol is Khao Ok Thalu, a limestone peak with a hole near its top that stands over the town. To the north, Thale Noi, Thailand’s first non-hunting area, is a wetland of lotus and more than 180 species of birds. The province is also known for nang talung shadow puppets and the Nora dance. Life is rural and calm, and homes are priced for local families.
