Rayong is the working heart of the Eastern Economic Corridor. Map Ta Phut, Thailand’s largest industrial estate, and the car and chemical plants around it draw Thai and foreign workers, and in 2016 the province had the highest income per head in the country. The coast is the other half of the story: the fishing town of Ban Phe, the beaches of Laem Mae Phim and Ko Samet, a national-park island 40 minutes from Ban Phe by ferry. Buyers choose between family houses near the estates and condominiums by the sea.
