A small river province on the Chao Phraya, home of the Bang Rachan heroes, under two hours from Bangkok.
Sing Buri is a small province of about 820 sq km, a flat basin on the west bank of the Chao Phraya about 140 km north of Bangkok, crossed also by the Noi and Lopburi rivers. It is best known for Bang Rachan, the village whose people held off an invading army for five months in 1765, shortly before the fall of Ayutthaya; a monument and park mark the place, and a ceremony is held each 4 February. Most of the land is rice fields, and the towns of Sing Buri, In Buri and Phrom Buri are small and unhurried.
