Lower Isan’s orchard province: Khmer sanctuaries, lamduan blossom in March and durian from red volcanic soil.
Sisaket takes its name from Sri Sikharesvara, the old name of Preah Vihear, the cliff-top Khmer temple on the Cambodian border. It is a quiet farming province: jasmine rice, garlic and shallots on the Mun plain, durian and rambutan on the red soils further south. Four peoples share it, Lao, Kuy, Yer and Khmer, along with many Khmer ruins, led by Prasat Sa Kamphaeng Yai. The town is small and easy, with a regional hospital, good state schools and the Lamduan festival each March.
