Cha-am’s long beach and golf villas towards Hua Hin, with Phetchaburi’s hilltop palace and palm-sugar sweets.
Cha-am sits on Phet Kasem Road 173 km south of Bangkok and 27 km before Hua Hin, and it is the quieter of the two: a long, straight beach, a fishing village and a Wednesday night market, with golf courses and pool-villa estates inland. Phetchaburi town, to the north, has King Mongkut’s hilltop palace of 1860 and a UNESCO City of Gastronomy title for its palm-sugar sweets. Behind them both lies Kaeng Krachan, Thailand’s largest national park and a World Heritage forest since 2021.
