Thailand’s smallest province: the Mae Klong River, Amphawa’s canals, coconut groves and the sea.
Samut Songkhram is Thailand’s smallest province, a flat green delta where the Mae Klong River meets the Bay of Bangkok. Canals carry the river through coconut groves and lychee and pomelo orchards, and salt pans line the coast; locals still call the whole place Mae Klong. In the early Bangkok era Amphawa was known as the ‘outer garden’ to the capital’s ‘inner garden’, and Bangkok still comes for slow weekends of boats, markets and seafood. Most homes for sale are houses and townhouses around Mae Klong town; Amphawa adds old wooden riverside houses.
