The lower north’s river city: Phra Phuttha Chinnarat, Naresuan University and flights to Bangkok.
Phitsanulok is the main city of Thailand’s lower north, about 380 km up the road from Bangkok on the banks of the Nan River. Its best-known sight is Wat Phra Si Rattana Mahathat, or Wat Yai, home of the gold Phra Phuttha Chinnarat, one of the most revered Buddha images in the country. King Naresuan was born here in 1555. Today it is a practical city of universities, hospitals and highways in every direction, and Sukhothai is about an hour away. Most homes for sale are detached houses, in the city itself and east towards Wang Thong.
