The old ‘port of the north’ on the Nan River, with durian orchards, the Sirikit Dam and easy town life.
Uttaradit means ‘port of the north’. Big boats on the Nan River could go no further, so for centuries goods changed hands here between the river and overland traders from Phrae, Nan and Luang Prabang. Today it is a calm town on the Northern Line, 483 km from Bangkok, surrounded by orchards: Laplae’s mild-smelling durians and the langsat each have their own festival. The Sirikit Dam’s great lake lies 45 km north, and the province keeps the world’s largest teak tree at Ton Sak Yai. A family house in town often asks around ฿2.2M.
